A Brief History of Braddock Heights, Maryland
Braddock Heights Volunteer Fire Company
was formed in 1910 and incorporated in 1947. In 1950 they
built the fire hall and added on to it in later years.
The fire hall was located at 5707 Jefferson Blvd. Then in
1986, they built a new modern structure located at 5717
Jefferson Blvd. The old station was sold in 1987 and it
is now occupied by a day-care center.
During World War II and the Korean War,
the ladies joined the fire company and manned the apparatus
in the absence of men.
Their first piece of apparatus was a 1947
Chevrolet 500 g.p.m. pumper. This company had a 1948 Ford
500 g.p.m. pumper, 1957 International 500 g.p.m. pumper and
a 1970 International Brush truck.
Their membership is around 60 members.
Today, the Braddock Heights Volunteer Fire Department
operates three pumpers and a brush truck. These trucks
are a 1970 Jeep 4x4 brush unit, 1976 International Ward /
LaFrance 500 g.p.m., 500-gallon tank pumper, and a 1976
International / Pierce 750 g.p.m., 1000-gallon tank pumper.
Also owned is a recently purchased 1990 Grumman Panther
II 1250 g.p.m. waterous pump with a 1000-gallon water tank
pumper..
