A Brief History of Temple Hills, Maryland
Temple Hills is a suburb of Washington
DC, southeast of the downtown district. It is a
census-designated place located in
Prince George's County, Maryland. As of the
2000
census, the CDP had a total population of 7,792.
As of the
censusGR2
of
2000, there are 7,792 people, 3,156 households, and
1,937 families residing in the CDP. The
population density is 2,228.5/km˛ (5,756.1/mi˛). There
are 3,388 housing units at an average density of 969.0/km˛
(2,502.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 9.32%
White, 85.01%
African American, 0.21%
Native American, 1.40%
Asian, 0.15%
Pacific Islander, 2.37% from
other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 4.39% of
the population are
Hispanic or
Latino of any race.
There are 3,156 households out of which
36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them,
28.8% are
married couples living together, 27.1% have a female
householder with no husband present, and 38.6% are
non-families. 32.3% of all households are made up of
individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65
